About
Proximie wanted to expose parts of its surgical collaboration platform via APIs to drive integration with third-party systems. We designed an API layer with HIPAA compliance, clear scopes, robust security, and documentation. The project laid the foundation for broader platform extensibility, enabling Proximie to scale as a core, secure component in clinical tech stacks.
Challenge, approach, and impact
Monolithic Legacy Architecture
Proximie’s existing system wasn’t structured for external access, making it hard to expose APIs without risking core stability or performance.
Security and Compliance
Handling sensitive clinical data meant the API layer needed airtight scopes, token strategies, and logging to meet strict healthcare compliance standards.
Lack of Dev Portal and Docs
There was no existing infrastructure for external developers—no documentation, no onboarding, and no sandbox environment to test integrations.

Skalable
“API overhaul for Proximie was a rewarding project. There were many challenges across the board, from architectural, through HIPAA compliance and embedding the new development process within the team. The cooperation was very smooth and we managed to deliver above requirements, promoting documentation-first principle that is still used in Proximie after years.“
