Challenge, approach, and impact

• Collaborating with four other teams to co-produce

  To transform Nooka's concept into a fully functional product encompassing both physical and digital components, successful collaboration among five diverse teams was crucial. This included a manufacturer, two IoT providers, a design team, and the expertise of Halcyon Mobile. Together, their coordinated efforts brought Nooka to life, ensuring a seamless integration of technology and design.

• Created Designs

  Upon taking on the project, we inherited the existing designs for the Nooka applications. While the initial designs were visually appealing, we saw an opportunity to enhance the flow and structure for an even more delightful user experience. Deconstructing, refining, and completing the design and wireframes became crucial in defining the product, its features, user flows, and handling various use cases and edge cases. Throughout the process, we carefully considered technical feasibility, constraints, and Nooka's future plans to ensure a seamless integration of design and functionality.

• Firm deadline

  To capitalize on the emerging opportunities of alternative work arrangements due to COVID-19 and meet the growing demand for innovation in this field, Nooka set an ambitious timeline of three months to develop a comprehensive mobile app and web component.

• Two distinct IoT technologies

  Nooka successfully incorporated two distinct IoT providers, each with its own unique integration approach. One provider utilized an MQTT broker, while the other utilized a custom-built managed system connected via TCP. Managing the differences in data flow and communication protocols presented a significant challenge, necessitating the abstraction of these complexities from the mobile client.
