About

DataDrill designed and built Konfirm, a multi-tenant SaaS platform that replaces multiple disconnected tools with one connected system linking Sales, Work, Time, Money, and Profit.

Challenge, approach, and impact

Key Challenges Addressed

Mid-market service companies with 20–500 employees run 5–25 separate tools — CRM, projects, timesheets, HR, documents, chat and mail — none of which share a data model. Nothing links a won deal to its project, the hours logged against it, the invoice or the final margin, so status has to be chased by hand across systems. The task was a single multi-tenant platform that keeps all of that connected, isolates every company’s data at the database level, stays fast at thousands of tenants with up to 500 users each, and looks better than the incumbent (Odoo) instead of like generic admin software.

Approach and Solutions Provided

DataDrill delivered Konfirm as a modular monolith on NestJS 11 and PostgreSQL 17, with strict module boundaries (no cross-module database joins) so modules can be split into independent services later. Tenant isolation is enforced by PostgreSQL Row-Level Security plus AsyncLocalStorage tenant context and a non-BYPASSRLS application role, proven by automated cross-tenant integration tests. Redis and BullMQ carry the event backbone that chains work automatically (deal won → project → tasks → invoice), Socket.IO pushes real-time updates and notifications, and Next.js 16 with shadcn/ui delivers the interface. Delivery ran as 50 phases across 8 milestones — Core Platform, Calendar, CRM, Projects & Tasks, Time Tracking, Communication & Acknowledgements, a full UI redesign, and Mail — each phase gated by a test-first wave, an automated code review and a STRIDE security review before it could close. GDPR erasure was built in as an early gate rather than retrofitted.

Business Impact Achieved

Around 280 requirements were delivered across 50 phases and 8 milestones in roughly three months by a team of under five, producing ~180,000 lines of production TypeScript covered by ~155 test suites. Konfirm collapses the tool sprawl a mid-market company would otherwise pay 5–25 separate subscriptions for, and removes the manual chasing between sales, delivery, time and finance by auto-notifying every affected user the moment anything changes. The review gates caught real defects before release — a stored XSS and three multi-tenant isolation flaws — and the RLS-plus-tests foundation is what lets the platform answer the first question every buyer asks about how their data is separated. The tenancy layer is abstracted, so schema-per-tenant or on-premise deployment is a configuration path rather than a rewrite.

The rule we never broke was that no module reaches into another module’s tables. It cost us time early on, and it is the reason we could add Mail in the final weeks without breaking anything we had built in the first.
