We built a cross-platform React Native app for a waste management company to digitalize how residents receive pickup schedules. Users select their locality to view updated collection dates, learn proper waste sorting, enable push alerts before each pickup, and sync schedules with Google Calendar. We made waste management simple, clear, and convenient.
Challenge, approach, and impact
Accurate, location-based scheduling
Implementing accurate pickup schedules required building a flexible data layer in React Native capable of handling multiple localities and frequent updates. Ensuring smooth UI performance while fetching, processing, and refreshing schedule data in real time was a key technical challenge.
Reliable Alerts & Calendar Sync
Building consistent push notifications across iOS and Android, paired with smooth Google Calendar synchronization, demanded careful handling of platform differences. The key was to guarantee timely reminders without disrupting user privacy, performance, or usability.
Clear Education on Waste Sorting
Transforming complex waste-sorting rules into easy, engaging content was essential to support responsible behavior. The challenge lay in making educational materials concise yet comprehensive, helping residents understand what to sort, how, and why it matters.
