About
Letterboxd for sports. A cross-platform fan community app for rating live games, sharing takes, climbing leaderboards, and building a personal sports database - no gambling, just fandom.
Challenge, approach, and impact
No place for fans to rate games without gambling getting in the way
Sports apps are dominated by betting odds, fantasy lineups, and score tracking - none of them built around how a game actually felt to watch. The founder wanted a dedicated space where fans could rate games on a 0-10 scale and share authentic reactions, without spreads, odds, or betting culture influencing the conversation. The challenge was building a product that put fandom first in a market that treats fans as bettors.
Real-time scores and ratings across eight leagues at once
RateGame needed to pull live scores, schedules, and team data across NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB, WNBA, NCAA Football, NCAA Basketball, EPL, MLS and soccer - all updating in real time. Each league has different season structures, game formats, and data sources. The platform had to normalize all of that into one consistent experience where fans could rate any game within a time window, regardless of which sport they were watching.
Product analytics for a category that didn't exist yet
RateGame isn't a traditional social app or a standard sports platform - it's a new category. That means off-the-shelf analytics dashboards don't capture what matters. The founder needed to understand which leagues drive the most engagement, when fans rate (live vs. post-game), what triggers a take vs. a silent rating, and how features like achievements and picks affect retention. We had to build a product analytics layer that answers questions no one in sports tech has had to

Testimonials
Kristijan Kocev, Tech Lead @ undefined
“"RateGame had me working across everything - React Native for the mobile app, Next.js for the web platform, real-time sports data integrations, and setting up the entire PostHog analytics layer. It's rare to touch that many parts of a product and see them all come together into something people genuinely use every game night. Building a new category from scratch with a founder who knows exactly what fans want made this one of the most rewarding projects I've led.“
