We modernised the backend of a large Scandinavian online grocery retailer with 12,000+ products, refactoring legacy ASP.NET MVC logic into reusable Web API endpoints. The work enabled a new warehouse in Denmark to join the real-time availability system without disrupting customers.
Challenge, approach, and impact
1. Expanding to a new warehouse
The retailer needed to add a new warehouse in Denmark to its operations without disrupting the online store.
2. Real-time availability across many variables
Stock visibility depended on delivery time slots, user location and warehouse location, and had to stay accurate for 12,000+ products at all times.
3. Legacy MVC architecture
Key backend functionality was locked inside ASP.NET MVC, which made it hard to reuse and extend.
4. Complex Sitecore integration
The availability logic was tightly connected to a Sitecore-based backend and its content hierarchy.
