About
Poly & Bark is an online-first furniture and home decor retailer. Operating out of Moorpark, California, the brand specializes in accessible, high-quality modern furniture, often inspired by mid-century classic designs.
Challenge, approach, and impact
Scope
The scope included a premium e-commerce storefront with structured product categories, product detail pages, cart and checkout flows, customer account areas, order status functionality, rewards and store-credit logic, swatch ordering, financing-related flows, support access, and content-driven product education.
Technical foundation
We also worked on the technical foundation behind the storefront. This included integration planning, data flow mapping, error handling, account-related logic, deployment processes, backup procedures, and maintainability guidelines. Since the platform had to support multiple business-critical workflows, the scope was not limited to visual development. It also included architecture planning and risk reduction.
First challenge
The first major challenge was creating a high-quality e-commerce experience for a premium furniture category. Furniture is not an impulse purchase. Customers need to compare materials, dimensions, delivery terms, reviews, financing options, and visual details before making a decision. The interface had to feel clean and premium while still giving users enough practical information to move forward confidently.
Second challenge
The second challenge was account complexity. The platform needed to support user sign-up, login, profile management, order status, rewards, store credit, gift card-related logic, and customer-specific data. These features had to work together without creating confusion for users or operational problems for the internal team.
Third challenge
The third challenge was integration reliability. The platform relied on multiple external systems, including payment providers, financing tools, customer support channels, reviews, loyalty tools, shipping workflows, analytics, and transactional notifications. Each integration introduced potential points of failure, so the architecture had to include proper validation, monitoring, retry logic, and recovery paths.
Fourth challenge
The fourth challenge was resilience. For a commerce platform handling orders, payments, customer data, rewards, and post-purchase communication, failure scenarios had to be planned in advance. The platform needed proper backup, rollback, and recovery measures so that product data, order records, customer accounts, and configuration changes could be restored safely if needed.
How we built
Testimonials
Ivanka Pop, Business analyst @ undefined
“What made the Poly & Bark project incredibly rewarding from a Business Analysis perspective was the sheer complexity of the consumer decision journey. In premium furniture retail, you aren't dealing with impulse buys; you are analyzing a long, high-consideration matrix where customer trust, data accuracy, and operational reliability are everything. Our mission was to translate these high-level business goals into seamless, fail-safe technical requirements. We didn’t just look at the front-end aesthetics; we mapped out the deep functional logic behind user accounts, wallet architectures (for rewards and store credits), alternative financing flows, and physical-to-digital touchpoints like swatch requests. One of our proudest achievements on this project was how we managed risk. By defining strict non-functional requirements around integration reliability, data validation, and idempotency rules, we ensured that downstream failures with third-party shipping or payment providers wouldn't disrupt the user experience or corrupt business data. Furthermore, we proactively built the design system to be RTL-ready, effectively future-proofing the platform for Middle Eastern expansion without requiring a future code rebuild. Under the guidance of our solution architect and structured PM delivery, we successfully bridged the gap between premium UX/UI and highly resilient backend engineering. The result is a scalable, maintainable enterprise asset that empowers the marketing and operations teams daily, while giving the client complete peace of mind.“
