Aftercart is a Shopify-based application that enables merchants to offer shipping protection directly at checkout. With coverage starting at just 2% of cart value, the app helps build customer trust while adding incremental revenue for merchants. Our team was brought in to optimize and stabilize the live platform, ensuring reliability and scalability for hundreds of Shopify merchants.
Challenge, approach, and impact
Incorrect Product Setup Driving Higher Shipping Costs
Shipping protection products were created as Physical items by default, leading to inflated shipping fees and frustrating both merchants and customers.
Unreliable Widget Installation
Some merchants faced failed widget installations due to overly strict legacy conditions in the app’s logic, creating onboarding friction.
Inconsistent Front-End Behavior
The app’s toggle widget for applying protection often malfunctioned, causing inconsistent user experiences across different storefronts.
Scaling While Live
The app had to remain fully operational while improvements were made, requiring a careful balance of stability and innovation.
