Unpacking the life of full stack engineer Radu

Time to meet the Full Stack Engineer at 7code, Radu!

Why did you join 7code, and what has kept you here?

I used to work on a larger project and things fell too slow for me. I was looking for something that would challenge me and allows me to have more impact on the project. In our initial discussions, Nicu mentioned that they usually work with startups and that was something that fit into what I was looking for.

What are your primary responsibilities and what does your day-to-day look like?

My primary responsibilities are to translate business and product ideas into code and make sure that users have a great experience using the product. At the same time, I am trying to make things easier for other engineers to build upon existing capabilities.

A typical day for me is: in the morning I plan for the day, what needs to be done and who needs to be involved. Then usually comes a catch-up with the team to sync about what we are all working on, issues or blockers. Following that are a few hours in which I am either doing research, coding, or testing. At the end of the day, I take care of administrative tasks like emails, slack, etc that come up during the day.

Do you have any hobbies, go-to weekend activities, or long-term passion projects you’re working on?

Currently, I am trying to learn Mandarin Chinese. I like to run and I am trying to contribute to open-source projects whenever I can.

What's your favorite line from a movie?

Not really one line but I like these verses from Dylan Thomas' poem recited by Michael Caine's character in Interstellar:

Do not go gentle into that good night,

Old age should burn and rave at close of day;

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

What is the next life milestone you want to achieve?

I want to visit all major cities around the world, maybe stay in a few of them for a while just to experience some of the good and the bad things that make that place unique.

In your opinion, what are the hallmark traits of a great Full Stack Engineer?

I think that dealing with the unknown and with abstract things are great traits to have for this role.
