Time to meet the Discipline Lead for Mobile Development at Expert Network, Andrei!

Why did you join Expert Network, and what has kept you here?

I joined Expert Network in 2018. Having previously worked at a start-up, I was looking for a change that would entail stability and a well-put environment that would allow me to grow. After multiple interviews with different companies, it was clear that Expert Network was the winner. The people were warm and professional, and the company culture was the most promising by a long shot.

One of the reasons I stay with Expert Network has been the colleagues that turned into friendships made in time. Furthermore, the projects stimulate me to learn and grow. And I also appreciate that management allows and encourages each individual to have an impact at the company level.

What are your primary responsibilities and what does your day-to-day look like?

My role at Expert Network is that of a Discipline Lead for the Mobile Development Department. My responsibilities vary from helping colleagues solve issues to advising and supporting multiple teams and projects company-wide. I'm also part of the team in charge of software architecture decisions and maintaining our best practices guidelines. Being a department lead also means I'm responsible for growing the department and interviewing potential new hires.

My day-to-day can vary a lot depending on company-wide needs. Working with multiple teams and projects means I plan my schedule and meetings in advance, but I also have to remain flexible to support and help with issues as they come along. Adaptability is my key to success.

How has Expert Network helped you in your career development?

I can say that Expert network has helped me in my career development in 3 main ways.

The first is about providing a good array of projects to practice and improve my programming skills. A good project with a solid technology stack is paramount to good developer discipline and technical progress.

The second layer of support comes from having exceptional talent among our colleagues. I can always rely on my team, and it gives me confidence and it enables us to learn from each other and grow together.

Moreover, the management encourages me to have a high impact at the company level, providing me with the right tools and proper channels for this. Expert Network supported my growth from developer to department lead, each step of the way.

Before working at Expert Network, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

Before I worked at Expert Network, and before my first programming job in 2015, I had practiced general medicine. During my Medical Doctor's degree, I was required to work in a hospital. So I worked in my city's Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit as a medical doctor in training. It was a rewarding experience that made me appreciate the hard job doctors and nurses do to help us and save lives.

Are you an iPhone or android type of person?

At the moment, I've got an iPhone, but I had an Android for a long time. What convinced me were the security and privacy improvements that Apple had made over the years. Also, the UI/UX consistent experience of Apple's ecosystem is top-notch on the iPhone.

On the other hand, you can't go wrong with an Android phone, especially considering its latest releases. If you enjoy configuring every aspect of your phone, Android is definitely for you.

My decision to go with an iPhone boils down to the fact that I prefer stability and ease of use over configuration and customization.

How do you define success in life?

For me, success in life narrows down to one concept: happiness. I do what I can to make sure I find joy in what I do, taking a moment to be grateful for what I have and where I am. And of course, putting people around me in a good mood matters as well. What contributes to my well-being is my family, friends, and having meaningful connections with people in my life. Additionally, work plays an important role here as well. I take pride and enjoy what I'm doing professionally, and at the end of the day, this makes me happy.
