What do you find to be the most exciting aspect of Angry Nerds?
At Angry Nerds, you never know what interesting field or industry you're going to interact with in the next project.
One time it may be a system that integrates with some new specialized device for the automotive industry, other time it may be an app similar to a city scavenger hunt with mini-games and AR elements.
We certainly can't complain about the lack of variety in our work, and I think this broadens our horizons immensely.
As a kid at heart, I couldn't resist testing out this swing.
What advice do you have for prospective Angry Nerds candidates?
Well, for starters, you have to state in your CV that your name is Michael. There was a time when one Michael was joining the company every month, so we started to suspect that our HR favors guys with this name...
But jokes aside, we're always on the lookout for people with not only "raw" knowledge but also the ability to explain why they use specific technologies, tools, and techniques. If a candidate can demonstrate an understanding of the reasons and consequences of doing things the way they do (or want to do in the future) we can already assume that we will trust their decisions during our work together.
What drew you to the role of a Line Manager?
Throughout my professional career, I always strived to actively help my colleagues with their problems or when they're upset about something - I believe that people doing a good job should be looked after. As a Line Manager, I have the best means to do that.
One more important thing is that as Line Managers at Angry Nerds, we collaborate with people from Sales, HR, and Operations. We can use our insight to improve the processes and communication between those departments.
What’s been the most memorable experience during your tenure so far at the company?
I think that would be one evening during a developers conference. After the presentations we gathered in one hotel room to have some drinks, and play board games. At some point, almost every person grabbed a laptop to hack around or discuss some ideas work-related or not. It was inspiring, to say the least, to be in one room with a group of such talented and passionate people.
I wholeheartedly recommend trying out indoor skydiving! You'll love it.
Before working at Angry Nerds, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
Years ago, a friend asked me to assist him with carrying out a couple of "marketing events" for a new product he was to promote.
So what did we have to do? Visit some popular nightclubs in the city. Each of them made a big entrance with hostesses, small fireworks and a disco ball. We had to hang out a bit, serve the product samples and after around an hour - we were off to the next place. I had a lot of fun doing this, despite some tense moments.
It was definitely something outside of my comfort zone, but it was a great experience overall and I would recommend a temporary "gig" like this to anyone who never worked in a bar, nightclub, or similar establishment.
If you could only drink one beer for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Hard choice, but I'd probably go with "Litovel Medový'' - a great Czech honey beer. I'm a bit of a honey beer enthusiast - even though I don't drink beer much, I like the bittersweet experience honey beer provides, from time to time.
