Time to meet the Full-Stack web developer at OLDBOY, Sergio!

How has OLDBOY helped you in your career development?

I consider the OLDBOY team a very human team, which tries to accompany you and guide you in your professional goals. They care about your goals and concerns to help you in your training. In the field of development, we are available to do training courses, webinars, and any type of content that makes us improve as professionals. On several occasions, we have attended conventions where we can be aware of the evolution of the market and new technologies.

What has been your favorite project at OLDBOY?

The project I am most proud of is the My TostaRica eCommerce. It is a complex and unusual eCommerce, where I have been able to demonstrate my abilities when it comes to building a unique product. It is a headless eCommerce where I have been working since its inception and I have been able to grow as a developer's hand in hand with the project. It has not been easy, due to the complexity and scope of the project, but with effort, dedication, and the support of my colleagues, we have managed to build a product that we are proud of.

How do you balance your career at OLDBOY and friends & family?

At OLDBOY we currently have a completely remote job, which helps to make work compatible with friends and family. Being able to enjoy 100% of your time without having to worry about traveling, traffic jams, or unforeseen events... means that you can spend more time with your family and friends. When you finish work and you are at home, where you can watch a movie with your partner, go out to play sports, or do any activity, it allows you to enjoy your time to the fullest.

Do you have any hobbies, go-to weekend activities, or long-term passion projects you’re working on?

My three main hobbies are climbing, video games, and movies. Video games are the main way of escape and fun that I have had throughout my adolescence and I still have fun with them nowadays. Strategy games are usually the ones that I play the most.

On the other hand, climbing has come into my life for a short time, a few years, but it has filled me with a passion that I had not known before. The different routes are small problems that I have to solve with my movements, positioning, and strength to achieve the goal of reaching the top anchor. Rock climbing allows you to connect with nature in a very direct way and to enjoy unique landscapes and views.

Finally, movies or series are my daily entertainment in which I can enjoy the lives of other characters and try to see how they feel for a short period. The category I enjoy the most, which is not one of the main ones, is where a very smart character achieves his objective by making decisions several steps ahead of his rivals.

What did you want to be when growing up?

When I was young I liked all those jobs that consisted of solving a problem. When something was broken in my house and a plumber, electrician, or bricklayer had to come, I was the happiest child in the world. I tried to be around them and learn as much as possible because I thought it was amazing what they managed to do.

When I grew up I liked everything related to healthcare. Two of my dream jobs were being a nurse or an ambulance driver. In one way or another, it was like the dream job from when I was a child, I would be someone who would help others solve problems, health in this case.

Once as an adult, I chose to study computer science (IT) as it became my dream job. Working with technology, and solving problems ended up being my job. So far from my goal as a child, but at the same time so close.

If given a chance, who would you like to be for a day?

Today, I would be an elite climber such as Adam Ondra or Alberto Ginés. I am passionate about climbing, I have been practicing it for several years and I would like to know what it feels like to be them.

They are people who dedicate their lives to the passion they have for their sport. Only they are capable of climbing the most difficult routes in the world and I would love to be able to feel that for myself.

Also, from what I have been able to experience, climbers can enjoy certain views or locations, which makes it magical.
