What is it like working at Ars Futura and being a developer for you?
Well, as you know, I’m a full-stack developer so I work on both back-end and front-end. As a bonus, I even started working on mobile when I came to Ars Futura. If it sounds like confusing work, it’s probably because it is.
Theoretically, there are three frameworks you’re working in but they’re all very similar. This is great because it means they’re easy to learn and if you know one, you’ll quickly learn them all. So, I can rely completely on myself through the whole process, I don’t need to bother the backend developer for example.
As I said, I have been learning mobile and it’s… a challenge. The UX/UI is completely different on mobile than it is on the web. Like, I forgot about transitions and it took me so long to figure out what was missing!
But at least it’s always interesting and it demands problem-solving which I love! It makes me feel divine like I can do anything. I love the feeling of exhaustion at the end of the day, it’s just accomplishment in another form.
What does your ideal project look like?
Honestly, it’s the project I have been working on right now. It’s an app for neighborhood communities living in building complexes in America.
I like working on something smaller, with a base team. I like having something to work for, a goal. I like that this project is structured, that the clients are invested in it so much and that we get to talk to them directly. To be happy, I just need a bunch of small challenges, they give me this feeling of growth.
What do you like the most about your day-to-day?
Seeing other people. And I look forward to getting my tasks done. When my task is a week-long, I love the last day of work the most. I like completion!
For her, good coffee is a must!
What does your perfect day look like?
I get coffee in a coffee shop, I don’t cook, I order in (probably eat McDonald’s), take a long walk with my fiancé, and I play video games!
What’s your wishlist for the next five years?
- Travel
- Get better at what I do
- Enjoy life!
I like to live my life as a hedonist, it’s the key to happiness. People think they have to do something for their whole life. You only have to enjoy it!
How has your life changed in the last year?
Well, I mostly stayed at home and I started doing puzzles!
I do miss dance, which I used to do a lot. I even met my fiancé while dancing. But I go to the gym so that fixes it.
Don’t tell her other coworkers, but our Junior Full-Stack Engineer, Natko, is Mia’s favourite person to work with
Do you have a favourite food?
Potatoes! French fries are the best kind of potatoes too, they’re the cream of the crop.
What did you want to do when you were younger?
Well, initially, I guess I wanted to be an astronaut. Who wouldn’t! I love the idea of floating in space, and I even had maps of the solar system up on my wall.
Then I changed my mind, of course, and wanted to be a teacher. There were a bunch of subjects I wanted to teach: English, Spanish, even history was in play at one point. But, in the end, in high school, I became interested in mathematics, and eventually, I ended up studying Mathematics and Computer Science.
Coding is kind of similar to maths. They’re both about finding patterns and solving problems.
What is one book you think everyone should read?
Lord of the Rings because the world in it is so detailed you don’t have a feeling it’s made up, you feel like it’s real and is just hiding from others. Even the movie wasn’t made for the masses but for the people who read the book.
And Sam is the best character! He was the one who made it to the end!
