Meet Piotr, the iOS developer always striving to learn something new

Having benefited from Miquido’s internship program, Piotr now works as an iOS developer, making sure our clients get the polished apps they deserve.

Let’s explore the life of a programmer with a passion for football, economics, and an occasional poker game.

How did you start your journey with Miquido and what’s kept you here?

I wanted to change the technology I worked with, and I’ve always been curious about mobile development. I ultimately went with iOS. I think I found Miquido through Linkedin, and after they accepted my application, I started my journey with the company as an intern. That was almost a year ago.

What’s kept me here? Definitely the atmosphere. I feel like the employees have a great connection with each other, no matter which position they hold. It’s overall a very pleasant place to work in, which I very much appreciate.

What does your typical day at work look like?

I start around 8 A.M. The first thing I do is check whether there are any pull requests issued by other members of the team. If so, then I go through them, and maybe suggest some corrections.

After that, I go to our daily meeting where we talk about potential issues we have with our current work, things to improve, etc. We work in sprints, so most of my day is spent going through the dev tasks for the week, and, of course, any additional things that come up during the day.

What do you find the most exciting part of working at the company?

A couple of things. I’ve already talked about the people, so that’s one. The second has to be the way Miquido helps you with career development, and how it’s very flexible when it comes to new things you want to try out or change.

The company gives you so much space for personal growth and choosing a career path – it’s very motivating.

If you weren’t a developer what do you think you’d be doing now?

If IT didn’t exist at all, then I’d probably try to become an economist. I find that it’s a field that’s constantly changing and you’re always able to learn new things, which also happens to be what I like about my current job. It’s an ambitious career path to choose.

What’s your favourite weekend activity?

My main hobby, the one I’ve had since I was a kid, is football. When I was younger, my day would revolve around football practice, which has unfortunately changed now that I have way less time for it. But still, whenever I have the opportunity, I meet up with my friends and we play a friendly game.

Other than that, I’m very flexible when it comes to my hobbies. For example, last year I used to play poker a lot, which was a pretty fun activity to try out. I’ve also bought myself a ukulele and tried to learn how to play it. I’m a pretty active person, so what I do in my spare time changes a lot.

Currently, I’d say a good book is my go-to when I need to relax, so literature has now also become a sort of a hobby of mine.

When are you the happiest?

I once heard someone say something like “I live for the ‘aha!’ moment”. I understand it as a feeling you get when things finally start to make sense, like when something that seemed impossible to achieve suddenly becomes accomplishable.

I guess you could say that I’m the happiest when my effort pays off and I figure things out.

If you could meet anyone in the world dead or alive who would it be and why?

Oh, that’s a hard question. I can’t just pick one.

I remember when I listened to Naval Ravikant on a Joe Rogan podcast and I felt like someone just opened up my brain and poured eye-opening knowledge inside. I’d definitely want to meet him in person, I could listen to him discuss business for hours upon hours.

Other than that, I’d like to learn what goes through the head of someone like Elon Musk, for example. And when it comes to those who have already passed away, I’d have to go with the physicist Richard Feynman, because of his ability to explain complex scientific concepts in a way that was easy to understand.

If you were stuck on an island, what three things would you like to have with you?

Assuming I have no reception on this island and can’t just get out by bringing my phone and calling for help? I’d do a captain Jack Sparrow: bring a solid knife to make a raft and a bottle of rum. No need for anything else, really.

What’s something you absolutely can’t live without?

I don’t have a physical thing that’s irreplaceable to me, but I definitely couldn’t live without other people around. In the words of Barney Stinson: “Whatever you do in this life, it's not legendary unless your friends are there to see it.”
