Time to meet the React Native & iOS developer at Z1, Juan Pablo!

What are your primary responsibilities and what does your day-to-day look like?

I work for Z1 as a Mobile Developer, specifically working with React Native and Swift. I like to be flexible and have knowledge of different types of technology. This is why my role is ‘React Native and iOS developer’.

My day-to-day life has lots of amazing things that I like to do. I'm not only a developer, but I'm also the engineering manager of the projects I work on, and I'm also a mentor for junior employees who work in the mobile team. It’s something that motivates me and that I’m really proud to do!

My primary responsibilities are developing code to deliver outstanding apps, but also staying in constant communication with design and PM teams to prepare a good UX-UI, managing ows, brainstorming sessions, etc. I manage the code of the projects in which I work too, I review pull requests from my project colleagues, and have a good time with them!

Why did you join Z1, and what has kept you here?

I joined Z1 when I was about to finish my computer science degree, 3 years ago, and it’s the best decision I've ever made!

The team was smaller back then, and they offered me a great opportunity with flexible working hours as a junior developer. Not only that, I could work remotely, with opportunities of scalability in my role and a customized career plan which I’m highly motivated to become a lead developer in the future.

Z1 realizes the importance of mental wellbeing and they do a lot to keep people happy while focused. I constantly feel valued here, they make real efforts to do so. I'm truly proud to work in a company that cares that much for its team.

The people are incredible, we are all like family and the work environment is really positive! Actually, I’ve talked about Z1 to all my friends and some of them can't believe how nice it sounds.

Additionally, I really appreciate the company culture and I feel very aligned with the values they promote such as inclusivity, diversity, and equality. This makes us all love our work!

What do you find to be the most exciting aspect of Z1?

The possibility to work remotely with flexible hours is really important to me and we are encouraged to find a good work/life balance. I earn a competitive salary based on my expectations and experience, and I have the opportunity to work on amazing projects with the best of design and engineering technologies.

I also really appreciate the fact that we are treated as equals, which makes us feel valued at all times. I also love our office, it’s spacious and modern, making it an ideal environment to focus.

How do you spend your time outside of the office?

I really enjoy going out with my friends and work colleagues for drinks and dinner. I also love traveling and discovering new restaurants with my girlfriend. The geek inside me loves playing video games and researching new technologies as well as discussing these with my friends.

Family is important to me too, and we are always going out for meals and spending quality time together.

How do you describe your work personality vs. your home life personality?

I think they're nearly the same. I'm a perfectionist, a good planner, resolute, and proactive. My home life personality is way lazier than my work personality, of course! But I think I have a good balance between both thanks to my work conditions, and thinking about how I am, I always keep some aspects of my personality in both moods: to be kind, respectful, happy, and sincere with people around me. It doesn't matter if they are work colleagues, family, friends, or people I’ve never met before. I believe living like this will mean you'll always be at peace with people and your environment.

Are you an iPhone or android type of person?

I used to be an Android/Windows person, but I started being more interested in mobile development when I finished my career, and that meant developing on iOS devices too, so I switched to iPhone and never looked back! It has the best UX ever.

Nowadays, I have nearly the entire ecosystem (iPhone, Apple Watch, MacBook Pro, and AirPods Max) and my Z1 colleagues always reach out to me when they have doubts about Apple products. They ask me about technical things or just when they need advice about buying a new Apple product (I'm very geek, omg).
