Today we turn the spotlight on Jakub, who works as a senior software developer at Miquido and makes sure that the applications we create are as flawless as they come.

Really keen on both gaining knowledge and teaching others, Jakub is a perfect example of Miquido’s passion for building products that people come to love.

What are your responsibilities as a senior developer at Miquido?

They go from coding, through research and development, all the way to code review. As a senior dev, I also have the possibility to take part in the recruitment process, collaborate closely with the sales department, and share knowledge with other developers.

Senior devs at Miquido have a lot of freedom, which I find to be the biggest advantage. Personally, I’m really keen on the technical side of the job, so I’m engaged in the application lifecycle, DevOps support, and I’m also involved in code reviews for other projects, not only those I’m a part of.

The most interesting part for me right now is the newest addition to my position, which is mentoring and helping other developers. It’s something that gives me an opportunity not only to grow as a professional myself but also to share my knowledge and experience with other teams.

What do you find the most challenging aspect of working as a developer?

One of the most important aspects of the daily work of a developer, especially at companies like Miquido where we deliver complete, custom-made solutions, is to find the right balance between quality and delivering the project on time.

There’s always a need to be precise and specific in estimating the time of delivery, but we also have to constantly be aware of things like security and preparing the application for further maintenance. We want to deliver products which will be easy to extend in the future, and so there are lots of different factors that come into play.

What do you like the most about working at Miquido?

Since my first day, I’ve really liked the atmosphere at the company and the people who keep it going. I used to work from home a lot before I came to Miquido, but here I’m really eager to come to the office, and I don’t want to miss those bits of company life.

I like the freedom that we have when it comes to professional growth. I’m a senior dev right now, and it’s very important for me to have an opportunity to decide whether I want to become a project manager or further develop my technical skills and become a product tech lead, for example. I’m really glad to have that opportunity here.

Also, I enjoy that I have the possibility to work on different products, as I’m always learning something new.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I’m a really big fan of board games, especially right now when we’re kind of obliged to stay at home. It’s my favourite time when I can have a break from my computer and I just play a good board game with my family or friends.

I’m keen on learning new things, and that’s not limited to tech stuff.

For example, right now, a sort of personal project of mine is to build a house, so I’m doing lots of research on understanding how it all works. I’m not building it by myself, of course, but I’m trying to understand the process the best I can. It’s fun to gain knowledge about something you previously knew little about.

What are the best vacation destinations in your opinion?

I personally like short trips, especially on the weekends. I have a few that I could recommend: a trip to Lake Como in Italy, as it’s very relaxing in the summer, I’ve also enjoyed one to Monaco, where I stayed for three days. Last year, I went to Slovenia and it also left a very nice impression.

What’s your next step, a few goals you’d like to accomplish in life, or while with Miquido?

I’ve already mentioned building my house – that’s my biggest goal for this year and probably the beginning of the next one. When it comes to my professional life, my goal is simply to be as helpful as I can to other developers.

What did you want to be when growing up?

I have a kind of funny answer to that question. When I was a kid I used to watch construction workers on the other side of the street from my room’s window, while they were building a road. It took them some time, and I could basically watch the whole process.

So back then, the closest thing to my future aspiration was becoming a drill operator, as I really admire people who know how to build things from the ground up. And I may have not become one, but as a software developer, I’m still very happy that I have the ability to build something useful for other people.
