Time to meet the Engineering Manager at DO OK, Jacek!
What are your primary responsibilities and what does your day-to-day look like?
I'm an Engineering Manager. That means I'm working on the intersection between the technical and business side of DO OK. My responsibilities are straightforward: To help our engineers develop their careers, and to help our customers to be successful in creating their digital products.
My day-to-day tasks are quite diverse: from recruiting new employees, planning proper teams compositions, and improving our processes
Hello world!
Why did you join DO OK, and what has kept you here?
I joined DO OK around five years ago. Way back then, I was working for one of the biggest tech companies as a systems administrator.
At that time I wanted to switch my focus to more software development-related topics. I was given this opportunity by DO OK.
Throughout all these years DO OK helped me a lot to develop my career, firstly as a Software Engineer, then as a Team Leader, and currently as an Engineering Manager.
What is the favourite part about working for DO OK?
I think that my favorite aspect of working with DO OK is included in our motto: it is life-changing. Fulfilling the mission of our company by bringing out the potential of each employee, and seeing how everyone is becoming better and better is probably my favorite and most rewarding part of working here.
Do you have any hobbies, go-to weekend activities, or long-term passion projects you’re working on?
The best scenario is when your hobby is your job at the same time. And this is also my scenario - even though I'm currently having less time for coding during my working hours, I like to code in my free time.
Other than that I love sim-racing and I'm very passionate about cooking, although people tend to laugh when they are hearing about my kaizen-style chicken soup...
Pedal to the metal!
Do you have an office nickname? What is it?
I have one! Partially because of one of the Product Owners that had a hard time pronouncing my name (/ˈja.t͡sɛk/) and partially because my first responsibilities as a Software Engineer were related to JavaScript - aka JS. A couple of my colleagues picked it up and started calling me 'JSec' (/dʒeɪsek/).
How has DO OK helped you in your career development?
Well, my supervisors were looking very carefully and were helping me to uncover some of my hidden talents. I was given more and more challenging tasks and had access to some mind-blowing courses and workshops.
And finally, I had some opportunities to go out of my comfort zone and do some more business-related initiatives. It was a great help for my career development.
