Time to meet the Software Developer at Canary Technology Innovations, Gabriel!

In your opinion, what are the hallmark traits of a great software developer?

Besides the deep knowledge of a lot of diverse technologies and tools used every day, you will need to know and understand your colleagues and your team. Usually, in a team, you’ll find colleagues who are not at the same knowledge level as you, and you have to know how to guide them through the learning process. Don’t forget, we’ve all been there, and think about how you have wanted to be treated by a senior colleague.

What do you like most about Canary Technology Innovations?

Well, here I can make a long, long list, but I will stick with only three points.

First, the colleagues and the team spirit.

Second, it’s about work flexibility. We are able to work flexible hours and that's great!

Third, should be about the new things that you learn here. Every day there may be a new challenge, and if you’re like me, you’ll like new challenges and learning new things.

How do you spend your time outside of the office?

Most of the time I’m watching TV series or movies, but I like to read too. I love the horror genre, so I read books mostly about that topic. It’s not a secret that Stephen King is my favorite book writer. Another hobby is playing Airsoft, but to be honest, in the past few years I haven't played as much as I would have wanted.

Before working at Canary Technology Innovations, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

I remember that 17 or 18 years ago, I worked as a salesman for a small company that was selling rubbish electrical toothbrushes. So, every week we had to go to different cities, from door to door, with the same “speech” and hope maybe, and just maybe, someone will buy some merchandise from us. It was my first job, so it was only for my summer vacation.

What's your favorite line from a movie?

I can’t say that I have a favorite line, but I have a lot of favorite movies and I’ll always remember this line:

“I'm tired, boss. Tired of being on the road, lonely as a sparrow in the rain.” John Coffey – The Green Mile

It's one movie that I really enjoy rewatching every time I get a chance.

Are you an iPhone or android type of person?

Definitely Android. As a user, you have much more flexibility compared to iOS, and besides that, all of my smart devices are around the Android/Samsung ecosystem.

I do however admire Apple’s devices and ecosystem, especially their device performances with lower specification hardware when compared to Samsung, for example.
