Time to meet the Lead Quality Assurance Engineer at Hicron, Maciej!

What is the favorite part about working for Hicron?

Beginning in high school I always liked sharing my knowledge. It started from teaching my colleagues physics and later developed to giving private lessons. This activity helped me to earn money to be able to travel each weekend to my future wife! As a QA Lead Engineer, I'm not only working on projects, but I'm also responsible for developing our QA team and serve them with my experience. This ability to share my knowledge is the best part of my work!

Looking for a beautiful view in the Bieszczady Mountains

Do you have any hobbies, go-to weekend activities, or long-term passion projects you’re working on?

Since 2018 I'm interested in aviation. It started from the YouTube videos explaining how airplanes are navigating, how systems like ILS (Instrument Landing System) works, etc. After that it developed to flight simulation. I started flying in the Microsoft FSX, then moved to the Xplane 11 and now I'm using Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. I joined Vatsim and IVAO - virtual networks joining pilots and air traffic controllers (ATC) to have better immersion of simulation. I'm flying all kinds of planes from big jets to the small general aviation planes. Almost each day I read or watch something about aviation, it became a part of my live. Probably you know flightradar24.com - application where you can track airplanes. In my garden I've installed RaspberryPi with equipment "catching" planes flying nearby and sending it to the flightradar24. Private Pilot License? Not yet, maybe in the future...

I think that we (IT) can learn a lot from aviation industry. My hobby started to inspire me at the work and this produces

What is the best vacation you’ve been to?

For seven years each year together with my family, we spend at least a few days in Bieszczady Mountains in southeast Poland. This is a magical place where we are able to rest very effectively in natural surroundings. We always leave with hope that we can go back very soon.

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Hicron, whose job would you want?

I'm a very wide perspective person. It means that I'm deep in quality assurance, but I'm also very interested in the whole technical aspects of IT industry. Also I very much like the psychological aspects of this work. I can be a scrum master, I can write a code of the application and I can do some DevOps work too. Of course I'm not an expert in these areas, but definitely I would switch a job with DevOps if possible.

How do you define success in life?

I think that you are successful in life when you feel okay with yourself and you are just happy. Nothing else matters!

What drew you to Quality Assurance Engineering? Have you always worked in leading roles?

I started working as a software tester in 2009 just after finishing my studies and from that point I always works in the quality assurance. When I was joining (or re-joining to be strict) Hicron in 2015 it was a great opportunity to me to became a technical leader. I do like to share my knowledge and experience with other people, so this role was very attractive to me. And I'm not disappointed!
