Meet Alex, a technical leader, and a future doctor. As part of the core team since the beginning 3 years ago, Alex has constantly been in leadership roles with teams and clients alike.

His critical thinking and ability to connect with people make him a great sparring partner—in various projects and also on the tatami.

Planning for the future with Alex

How has FXBITS helped you in your career development?

I like being challenged. It keeps me interested, involved, and motivated. At FXBITS I grew through challenges, which for me was the fastest and most reliable way to grow.

Every time I felt that if I wanted to do more, I had the opportunity and most of the time, I took it.

On a more pragmatic note, the program's flexibility enabled me to work on my tasks and finish what I had to do for work, while at the same time finishing my master’s degree with brio.

What advice do you have for prospective FXBITS candidates?

Always stay true to who you are. Don’t hide what you know and what you don’t know. At FXBITS diversity is greatly valued.

I believe that the way to become an amazing individual is to allow people to express their true selves.

You don't have to know everything, but you should be curious to learn. Learning opportunities usually come naturally at FXBITS, but if they don't, we always encourage our colleagues to start a course.

What are your primary responsibilities and what does your day-to-day look like?

I am currently a tech lead for a small team working on several projects for the same client.

My main responsibility is to make sure that the team understands what needs to be done and chooses the best way to deliver the expected quality of the product. This means I have to keep a close connection to everyone in the team, including the client.

Just like any other developer, I start my day with a cup of coffee served with some fresh air on our beautiful terrace. After everyone arrives, we usually take a short break together to align our spirits. Afterward, we make sure everyone has a plan and has no obstacles to get the job done.

After lunch, I always have to pour that second cup of coffee. In the afternoon I keep my focus on what I have to do and take small breaks from time to time to enjoy the spontaneous office humor.

Having the talk, the technical talk, with Alex

How do you describe your work personality vs. your home life personality?

Well, I don’t think I can change personalities during the 15-minute road to home. I am just the same human being regardless of the context I find myself in. I have the same strengths and same weaknesses in both contexts.

I can have good and bad days no matter where I spend them. I like the same things and practice the same hobbies with people from work as well as with people from my private life.

Also, sometimes being at home feels a lot like being at work. The list of tasks is just slightly different. :)

How do you spend your time outside of the office?

As soon as I get home from work, I usually keep myself busy with different activities. I try to keep a balance between activities that are fun and those that get me ahead.

Fun stuff includes both sports activities, like tennis or kickbox training, and more static ones, like reading or watching movies. I used to play computer games, but lately, I haven’t managed to find the time for it.

The main self-growth activity I am currently involved in is working on my Ph.D.

Reader's Digest with Alex

When are you the happiest?

I am an optimist, so I am generally cheerful and in a good mood.

When I'm on holiday, in a sunny place near the sea, I enjoy myself the most and feel completely relaxed and detached from all negative thoughts.

If you were an animal, what would you be?

I think I would be a dog. People who know me would be surprised because I have four cats, but my soul is that of a friendlier creature.

Are you an iPhone or Android type of person?

I had both and liked both. I stuck with the iPhone because it's so simple.

With Android, I just wouldn't stop customising it and playing around with its features and would never be satisfied.

With the iPhone, I get a device that does everything I need and does it so well that I can't complain.

If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Fried potatoes! The way my grandmother used to make them: not too crunchy and with a lot of cheese on top.
