It’s time to meet the System Architect, Zoran!

Why did you join Bild Studio, and what has kept you here?

A friend asked me to talk with some "bright young lads" since they were looking for someone with experience in the development of enterprise-level software solutions. I did.

From the first moment, I recognized their energy and commitment. I must say that their enthusiasm and youth was something that I really needed at that point in my life. It worked even better as we started to make things together.

That synergy between the enthusiasm of the developers and my experience is still strong after seven years. And yet, we are still learning from each other.

"Coffee break gang" - with my best workmates

Do you have any hobbies, go-to weekend activities, or long-term passion projects you’re working on?

My biggest hobby is music. I've been playing the guitar since I was 10. Not a superstar player though, but still very enthusiastic about it. Some three years ago, I managed to incorporate my second hobby - electronics.

I've started to build guitar-related gear. Guitar effects pedal mostly. Even managed to make my own electric guitar.

What did you want to be when growing up?

My first childhood wish was to be a bus driver.

I guess I was amazed at those big shiny things and wanted to "master" them.

In your opinion, what are the hallmark traits of a great system architect?

Great system architects should have two pronounced characteristics: abstract thinking and analytic mind. Trying to produce solutions that will best suit the problem that it needs to solve.

To be open-minded and not blindsided by the current "hype" in the domain of software architecture. System architects should know all the tools available, in order to use the right ones for the given task. The quality of the architectural solution is, however, just a half job done.

It should also be able to present that solution to the developer in a manner that leaves no ambiguity or "I kinda got it" moments.

On stage

Are you an iPhone or android type of person?

I'm using Apple products in my professional capacity as well as for my personal needs. I find them much more satisfying from the "user experience" point of view.

So yes, I'm kind of an "iPhone/Mac" guy. That doesn't mean that I will hesitate to use any other platform if I need it to get the job done.

How do you see yourself in 10 years? Will you still be in the same company? What do you find to be the most exciting aspect of Bild Studio?

Yes, I'm confident that I will be in the same company.

I see myself as a kind of "mentor" or "advisor" (I'll be 63 then - hardly the age when I can be "most productive") that can share a lot of knowledge and experience with younger colleagues and help them to achieve great results.
