Time to meet the Project Manager at X2 Mobile, Maria!

Before working at X2 Mobile, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

I've only had one job before working at X2 Mobile in a totally unrelated field. I graduated from horticulture, so my previous job was a lot more down-to-earth... literally. I used to work in a wine cellar as an engineer, wearing grey overalls and rubber boots, working 12 hours per day during harvest season.

It was hard and I had to move to a small town, so I thought I could use my potential somewhere else. I landed at X2 Mobile three years ago and I'm planning to stay.

Why did you join X2 Mobile, and what has kept you here?

I remember stumbling upon X2 Mobile's website and thinking: "They seem like a fun bunch, I think I'd like to work here." So I wrote an application giving my best and I landed my first job in IT. To be honest, I didn't have any reason to look for another job so far.

This company is my second family. I genuinely look forward to waking up every morning and going to the office to spend time with my colleagues, even though I also have the possibility to work from home. And I think people make the difference.

We have the best people and the clients are easy to work with as well. Also, we receive constant positive feedback from the users of our applications and I feel that my job actually has a purpose.

What is your proudest moment at X2 Mobile?

This is easy, my proudest moment was when one of our clients, whom I respect a lot, told me he was going to be "heartbroken" that we won't be working together anymore. And he called me "talented and smart." And this is coming from a guy who graduated from Princeton and MIT! I MUST be smart then. It meant a lot to me because it was the first big project I've been working on and I had impostor syndrome, so this feedback was really valuable.

Are you an iPhone or android type of person?

This is a funny question because my company develops primarily iOS apps, but I'm the only employee that owns an Android phone (apart from the Android developers and the QA team).

So I'm definitely Team Android, but when I had to change my laptop my boss asked me if I wanted another one with Windows or a Macbook. I told him to choose whatever he liked and he asked "What colour do you want the Macbook to be?" to which I replied, "Pink, of course!"

Do you have an office nickname? What is it?

My colleagues sometimes call me Mother Mary not because I'm a saint, but because I always take care of everyone.

What is the best vacation you’ve been to?

Definitely my 10-day trip with a campervan in Iceland. There's something about the mightiness of nature that gets me every time.

I only have New Zealand on my bucket list now, but I'm sticking with the Carpathian Mountains until the pandemic passes.
