Being one of the fastest-growing startups in London, we understand the challenges and excitement that startups and enterprises face. We don't pretend to know every market, however, we do understand high growth startups. We believe in transparency; when you partner with Airbyte, you will speak with the founders.
Time to meet the Head of Product & Design at Airbyte, Luke!
Why did you join Airbyte, and what has kept you here?
The main reason that I joined Airbyte, was that it gave me the opportunity to work with some amazing and exciting startups, offering me new challenges on a daily basis. Airbyte also allows me to utilise my expertise to help other founders achieve their goals.
Airbyte's values around providing a truly bespoke and holistic service to its clients are values that I share and constantly want to promote.

What are your primary responsibilities and what does your day-to-day look like?
My primary responsibilities at Airbyte are to ensure the smooth, quality, and on-time delivery of our projects. This begins with forming strong relationships with our clients and truly understanding their product and vision, and then making that vision come to life.
My day-to-day is extremely varied, from running ideation or strategy sessions with clients to designing interactive prototypes and writing detailed specifications for our developers (and much more).
In your opinion, what are the hallmark traits of a great Head of Product?
I believe that to be successful in any product or design related role, you need to be passionate about helping the user as well as the business. True empathy and understanding of the user's needs will add tremendous amounts of value to the product, and in turn, help the business meet its goals.
Whether this is through finding and implementing amazing new features, or identifying things to avoid, the user and business goals will always go hand-in-hand.
Are you an iPhone or android type of person?
I am definitely an iPhone type of person. Although I am aware that there are many shortcomings of Apple products, especially around performance and price, the design style and interface has always made more sense to me.

What's your favourite line from a movie?
"Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion man" - Jeff Lebowski from The Big Lebowski
Not only is this a great line in a great movie, but translates well into proper product design - where opinions should always be taken with a pinch of salt.
If you could meet anyone in the world dead or alive who would it be and why?
If I could meet anyone, it would be Neil deGrasse Tyson. I am fascinated by everything to do with astrophysics and the universe since taking it as an elective course at university.
I believe his approach to the promotion of STEM and being an educator to the masses is crucial work and I would be really interested to have a conversation with him about all-things science, technology and the universe.
