Time to meet the Senior Software Engineer at Looming Tech, Veselin!

Why did you join Looming Tech, and what has kept you here?

Because of the people and the work environment. That's why I joined and that's why I am still here and that's why I will stay here for the long-term. Even thought because of the remote-first approach we didn't meet for more than 1 year when we finally met I was welcomed as like we knew each other for years.

What are your primary responsibilities and what does your day-to-day look like?

I work on various projects. From large fashion e-commerce platform to small environment oriented startup. From large banking company to small innovative fintech startup. At Looming Tech we can solve problems for every type of company regardless of the industry it operates in or its size. We have the same approach which is to be professional always.

The technologies that I am working with are React on the frontend, React Native on the mobile side, Python / Node on the backend side with little flavour of SQL and AWS. The full list includes Django, FastAPI, Express.js, Snowflake, Terraform, PySpark, AWS Glue.

How do you balance your career at Looming Tech and friends & family?

The main thing I love about working as a Software engineer especially at Looming Tech is that we are remote-first company, which means that I can get up in the morning and have breakfast with my family while casually scrolling in the list of the tasks that I have for the day. After that I can go out in the yard and keep an eye on my son while he is playing and in the mean time work on the projects. Then lunch, then focus time while he is having his nap time with my wife... You got the point. I have the freedom to choose when to work and be even more productive than staying at the office.

Are you an iPhone or android type of person?

Definetely iPhone. I love the Apple ecosystem, I just don't like the prices of their products.. but it is what it is. I just know that great products are not the cheapest and as a customer I would expect to be charged more for quality. Same goes with my preference of cars, but that's another topic :D 

How do you define success in life?

One word - Happiness. That's how success is measured. If you are happy then you are successful no matter how much you earn, what car you have, how big is your house. I am happy because I have a great family and I have a great job. So I consider myself a one happy person. I really hope to be able to do my job in the future. I want to see old software engineers :D

What did you want to be when growing up?

Businessman. I was putting a tie and holding a briefcase and gave orders to my friends. That's how imagined the businessman back then. During the years I found out that it is much much more complex and you first need to get people's trust in order to lead them. Also got to understand what is the difference between leader and commander.

Now I still dream of having my own business, but it is not that big of desire. I am doing small steps to financial freedom and would rather be financially free rather that having my own business.
