To overcome the limitations of outdated technology and enable a higher user capacity, the client decided to upgrade their voting solution. This upgrade now allows for remote voting, offering a more convenient and accessible voting experience. The upgraded solution now provides the European Parliament with the opportunity to save time and financial resources for MEPs who are not physically present in Brussels or Strasbourg during voting sessions. Challenge, approach, and impact
The Context
Device Compatibility: The voting system is accessible from smartphones, tablets, laptops, or desktops, mirroring features of the Plenary Room Voting System.
Connection Requirement: Users must be connected to the European Parliament Network for system access.
Access Point: A landing page directs users to the appropriate session/virtual room based on their profile.
Voting Interface: Once voting starts, the application provides all necessary instructions and information for the voting process.
The Challenges
Firstly, there were security and networking restrictions that hindered the comprehensive testing of the solution.
To overcome this, during the project timeline, our CTO, Igor Mardari, made two trips to Brussels to actively test and work on the Revote project.
Secondly, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and scalability of the system posed another significant challenge.
